A Chilly Golden Day Featuring Shy Hellebores and a Hungry Honey Bee Together With A Lovely Sunset And A Chilly Golden Dessert For Supper...

Today was supposed to be sunny and warm-well up to 11C they said...

Well it was sunny-in parts but for the majority of the day, there was a very brisk, cool breeze and a fair amount of cloud. Excellent for drying out the washing-and so good it is to be able to use the outside washing line again for the first time this year, but chilly to be out gardening for too long...

The day started out quite well with clear blue skies though there had been a hard early morning crispy frost which should have given me due warning of what was to come for the day...

Intrepid poster that I am, and mindful of any readers that may come by, I ventured out into the garden with my camera with not a bite of breakfast that had yet passed my lips...

The Red Currents are slowly unfurling in the sunlight...

The shy Hellebores are looking truly lovely despite hiding their beautiful flower cups downwards so only the worms can truly appreciate their beauty...

I then noticed a lone honey bee going about from flower to flower...however taking a photo proved just a little difficult...

Gradually I managed to predict where it might go...

Just going in to the flower on the right...

Then this...

And this...

 And finally this one...

After that, the bee was obviously heavily laden in nectar and wobbled off over the wall, flying almost drunkenly back down into the wood below...

Watching of such industry and toil reminded me it was time to be back inside for a rest and a welcoming mug of coffee and a change of clothes!

You will be pleased to know I did venture out later and sowed some seeds and did a spot more gardening-more about that in future posts....

And finally there was supper and to finish with, may I present the finale of the day- dessert!

Fresh succulent pineapple, toasted with crunchy Palm sugar and generous lashings of warm and bubbling Jamaican Rum,

And topped with Stem Ginger Ice-cream...

A lovely golden dessert to enjoy with a golden sunset...sleep tight everybody...

  1. Fresh succulent pineapple, toasted with crunchy palm sugar and generous lashings of warm and bubbling jamaican rum, AND topped with stem ginger Ice-cream...gosh you're killing me. i love pineapple, and then you go on to the palm sugar (I love raw palm sugar so much I will sneak spoons of it), and then rum, AND then stem ginger ice cream (I love the heat of ginger, esp against that sweetness).

    great great one (:

  2. That dessert looks divine - I am particularly partial to ginger ice cream, not to mention pineapple and rum.

    1. Hi Sally.

Thank you for your kind comment! What a difference a week makes as we are now basking in a mini heat wave-well at least by Welsh standards! The last few days have been glorious and hot! By Thursday it is supposed to get to a high of 19C...

    1. Hi Norma,

Thanks for stopping by. The Helebores have done really well and that particular clump had just one white and one dark crimson flower last year but this year produced over a dozen flower heads and more to come...

    1. I do believe your own garden should be a little paradise however the elements often seem to conspire not to make it so! But then all that means is we truly appreciate the ‘golden days’...

  6. Lovely photographs and it really feels like spring has sprung when the honey bees venture out. The reducrrant flowers are gorgeous. We planted one last year, but sadly no flowers on it - yet (she says hopefully)! Love ginger ice-cream but don't think I've ever had toasted pineapple - sounds wonderful.

    1. Hi Choclette,

Many thank for your kind comments.

Just about to flambé tonight’s pineapple with yet more rum and a homemade caramel sauce...no more ice-cream in the freezer so will just have to suffer these meagre offerings instead...ho hum...

  7. Crikey! Those photos are absolutely fabulous. The photos on your blog have come by leaps and bounds. You must be very proud of them - and justifiably so. I also have to admire your dedication to the blogging task that you have assigned yourself. No doubt you will find yourself dashing out into the garden, camera in hand, at all sorts of strange moments, just because the light is right, or because you've seen a lesser-spotted Welsh Toucan or something, perching in a nearby branch! And the subjects you have chosen today? Equally superb. Especially pineapple with stem ginger and rum. Yum! (Makes my hotel meal this evening seem VERY dull by comparison.)

    1. Thank you so much Mark-from you that is high praise indeed! I am just loving taking photos and another plus is I’m appreciating my little garden even more by looking at everything from different angles thinking of camera shots and in so doing discovering hidden gems...

Sympathies for being stuck in a hotel this week-especially when the weather is being so kind to us. The aroma and taste of the pineapple and hot rum topping was so, so nice...

Back now out in to the garden-must keep an eye out now for that Lesser-Spotted Welsh Toucan!!
